Fremont couple to celebrate 70 years of marriage By Bruce and Mary Haveman Jim and Helen Haveman of Fremont plan to celebrate 70 years of marriage soon. Married on July 9, 1940, the couple have lived in the same one-owner home in Fremont ever since it was built in 1946. Both were born in the Fremont area and have spent most of their lives here. Class of 2005 – Caryn Nicole Homsher

Local student honored at Kettering Caryn Nicole Homsher, daughter of Carl and Laurene Homsher of Fremont, received the Kettering University President’s Medal of Honor, the university’s highest award, at a special breakfast on Saturday, June 12 before KU’s commencement. The President’s Medal honors graduates who earn outstanding scholastic achievement; demonstrate professionalism on the job in their respective co-op employment; and share significant community service on and off campus. Four President’s Medals were awarded to the graduating class of 300 and Homsher was the only female earning the honor. Blessed to be together By Sandy Purcell After 63 years of marriage, Pastor Charles and Virginia Jones are still together every day. Charles was born on May 16, 1929 in Siebert, Colorado. He was the only child of Glenn and Faye Jones. The family moved to Fremont when Charles was a teenager. Virginia was born on Dec. 7, 1927 in Ada, Ohio. She was one of 10 children and her family moved to Fremont when she was a teenager. Both Charles and Virginia graduated from Fremont High School, but they didn’t actually meet for the first time in school. Both families lived in the country and Charles wanted to see who was living in the house up the lane when he walked up there to meet all the kids. One of those kids turned out to be his future bride, Virginia. Continue Reading

Class of 2008 – Army Private Jordan K. Stout

Army Pvt. Jordan K. Stout has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. He is the son of Ginger Karrip of Fremont and Jack Stout of White Cloud. Stout is a 2008 graduate of Fremont High School.
